On 13 May 2000, the Roombeek neighbourhood in Enschede was destroyed in a fireworks disaster. Museum TwentseWelle is located in this re-built neighbourhood, and will amaze you with all kinds of stories about ‘the people of Twente’, from hunters and collectors to contemporary society. Hengelo is home to the Techniekmuseum HEIM, a treasure trove of industrial heritage with grunting, ticking, slurping and humming machines. You can start up the machines yourself and operate the interactive globe. The museum is located in a listed building.

Open-Air museum Ootmarsum
Ootmarsum Open-Air Museum is one of the gems of the picturesque artist town of Oostmarsum. It offers a compelling insight into rural life in Twente a century ago. You will find traditional Saxon farms, fully equipped and with all outbuildings. The museum also tells the story of the ‘Heeren’, former landowners.
